I Used to Get Lost in Headlines, Now I Slay Tasks Like Luka

Updated: Feb 6

Office life was predictable. Open your browser, scan headlines, and get sucked in by"Travis Kelce throws up heart after TD 🫶 Taylor Swift & Jason Kelce LOVE IT." Work? Whoops, later! When I started working from home, I thought it would be different, yet it brought the same siren song of clickbait headlines, leaving me frustrated and unproductive. It was very frustrating...you know, the distractions.

Then I got an idea. Background music, specific music for focusing and concentration. To expand on the mood, I also dimmed the lights. Between the two, I reenergized and became super concentrated, and sure enough, I started checking off my things-to-do list.

But like Alejandro Sosa, the "Headlines" came back with a vengeance, and not even the combined concentration music and dimming of the light could stop them. I was clicking on every headline, "Fani Willis Subpoenaed by House GOP for Allegedly Firing Whistleblower," "No, Texas Can't Secede, and the Border Fight Is About Politics More Than Policy," "Paulina Porizkova Nearly Bares It All While Speaking Candidly About Surgery." It felt like collecting cans for beer money, and by day's end, I was exhausted with nothing accomplished.

Exhausted and empty-handed, I realized mere workarounds wouldn't do. I needed a bolder strategy to nip the problem of distractions in the bud. Eureka! It dawned on me to change my browser's startup page. Duh! Eliminating distractions meant boosting efficiency, so I set my email as the landing page, a constant reminder to tackle new messages while bypassing the alluring vortex of clickbait. Talk about killing two birds with one arrow!

Since then, my productivity has skyrocketed. Work is dispatched like Luka Doncic drops threes. Sure, it's not rocket science; maybe I'm just trying harder, but hey, it works! No more headline FOMO, just laser focus.

The saga continues: is this the ultimate weapon against WFH distractions, or just another plot twist? Stay tuned for my adventures in the digital wilderness! Until then, may your workday be distraction-free and your achievements plentiful!

My new startup page. Yea, I know its Yahoo. Im old like that.
